The Heddon Torpedo series lures have been around for generations. The Heddon Torpedos are considered to be amongst the most widely used of all topwater lures. With more than 13 million Torpedos being sold to date, The Heddon Torpedo lure is the highest selling propeller-equipped surface bait in the world.
For some anglers, the Torpedo is the only surface bass fishing lure that they bother to carry in their box. The Torpedo creates a wild splashing disturbance on top of the water that the fish cannot resist. Of all the torpedo lure reviews that I have read before buying a few myself, I have not found anyone that had anything bad to say about any of the Torpedos. Several even mention that on the first cast they get action with this lure. I have to say, it was the 2nd cast for me! Some folks stated that they only tie this lure on and don’t bring any others with them. The tacklebox stays at the house!
There are 3 types of Torpedos, but the colour choices are vast. First, you have the Teeny Torpedo which is perfect for light-line anglers. With the Teeny, you can expect to catch all sorts of panfish including crappie, bass, and trout. Next, you have the Tiny Torpedo. Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass are the types of fish you will likely catch on the Tiny Torpedo. Last but not least, there is the Baby Torpedo. The Baby Torpedo was created for the larger of the gamefish. Expect to hook into musky, northern pike, bluefish and stripers.
The Torpedo lures mimic wounded baitfish fluttering on the top of the water. Naturally, a predator sees this as an easy meal and doesn’t want it to go to waste. Also, they don’t want any other hungry fish to get to it first so they attack it with a vengeance. The aerodynamic design allows the lure to be strategically cast in just the right spot above where the fish are lurking.
